When you want to create change in your life it is not a good idea to start from a place of neediness or dissatisfaction.
This would seem to be a contradiction in terms when setting goals, however, along with setting your goal there must also be a level of acceptance for where you are right now. It can be very hard to come to terms with where you are now when it is causing you a lot of pain and consequently it is this part of creating change that people struggle with the most. This is where having the support of someone, such as a coach, who understands the process of creating change is really important.
It is how you handle the present moment that will dictate how difficult or easy it will be for you to create the change you desire and ultimately the success you are looking for in life.

I realized that no matter what tools or systems I used to manage my time and money, if I was operating from this belief, my experience would always be that it is just too hard.
However what I have also learned is that as I became more and more aware of this belief and how it has showed up in all areas of my life I could choose to change it. My focus for everything I do is now on how can I make this simple, easy and fun and this is allowing me to transform the results I am achieving in many areas of my life.

I have quite a few goals and projects on the go right now and it has been a real challenge finding the best way to manage my time with it all. These last few days I have been working relatively efficiently and I thought it could be useful to share some of the key elements that are helping me along the way. So here they are…
I create space by clearing my desk of all unnecessary paperwork.
I do a brain dump of all the activities that I need to do and ideas that are in my head.
I then run through these and divide the list into those I want to do now and those I can deliberate on for a bit longer.
I then go through the list of those tasks I want to do now and split the list into Do Right Now, and schedule the others – I consolidate these tasks under a heading e.g admin, budget review, I.C.F.A. admin and schedule appointments with myself in Outlook to complete them.
When finished this process I then get straight to it and start my Do Right Now list immediately.
Another strategy I currently using is to set a deadline for these appointments – a definite finish time. I am using my timer to let me know when I am 10 min off that deadline and I start to wrap up the project and reschedule any incomplete parts at this point.

Planning is the most important activity you can make time for – it is equally important whether you are busy or not.
It does not have be a long and arduous process – a few minutes taken daily to consider your goals, write out a list of what you want to achieve and to reflect on what task would be the most important one for the day will make a huge difference.
What is the one activity, that would give you a feeling of satisfaction at the end of today because it’s been completed? This is your key activity for the day.
One key activity daily when nothing is scheduled in your diary will create momentum and motivation, while onekey activity when you are busy will ensure that you focus on what’s most important which gives you a sense of achievement and knowledge that steady progress has been made at the end of the day.
I have been noticing recently a few seminars promoting exit strategies for your business. It is a great idea to think ahead and decide how you want to finish up your business when the time comes, to set a clear outcome. Do you want to just shut up shop, have a business to pass onto the next generation, or have an asset to sell at some point. This is really important as it gives you the long term goal, with a time frame to work towards and it makes daily, weekly and monthly prioritizing so much easier.
Working with a client this week I realized that setting an exit strategy can also work in other areas of life as well. If you have something in your life that is not working for you and you would love to leave it behind why not create an exit strategy to do so.
For example if you are in a job that you hate, or a home that you want to leave what are the things you need to do to reach completion and be able to move forward into something new? Are there skills that need to be learned, are their commitments or tasks that need to be completed – what are the things to be done before you can finally leave it behind? Write it all out on a list.
Once you can see clearly what needs to be done you will be in a better position to identify the first action step you can take and the sense of relief will be immediate.

Having been self employed for most of my working life I have always felt that this time of the year is a great opportunity to start a fresh in business. The end of the financial year on the 31st March allows me to reflect on my successes, on the disappointments and on what got in the way of me achieving the goals I had set.
I work from a holistic point of view, believing that our satisfaction with our personal life will reflect on our business life, and vice versa. So there is always the reassessment of how my personal life is performing and how everything fits together for me at the same time.
Part of this process of closing off the last financial year is the physical clearing out of all the old receipts and paper work to be filed away, or to be dealt with by the accountant. I get a lot of satisfaction from clearing out clutter and completing these sorts of activities always increases my energy. And of course it creates the space for lots of new opportunities to come into my life.

However we can often spend so much time planning our futures that we forget about the present. As we strive for our goals we can miss the opportunities and possibilities in the present moment which could lead to the sense of fulfillment and satisfaction we are searching for.
If our lives were perfect today we would no longer need to live in the future. In fact our futures can be even better as we learn how to make the most of our present.

Ask yourself “If there was no future what would I do differently today?”
Focus on really enjoying whatever it is you decide to do today – give it 100% of your attention and make it perfect.

I have often found it a struggle to be content with where I am and what I have right now as I strive for where I want to be. We are encouraged to set our goals and to dream yet it can be so disheartening as this highlights everything that we don’t have in our lives instead!
So this week I made the decision to change this experience to something more positive.
I chose to focus totally for one day on the things in my life that I am grateful for right now. As I moved through my day I looked for all the things that I love in my life – everything I did or used was an opportunity to be grateful. Within a matter of hours I was feeling so much more resourceful because of all that was working so well for me and I was aware again of all the opportunities around me to keep me moving forward.
This has now given me the strength and the motivation to continue working on my dreams and goals. I am no longer discouraged before I even start.
So why don’t you give it a try?
Focus for one day on everything that you love about your life and really enjoy and appreciate each and every one!!
If this is difficult, focus on one area and ask yourself “What can I do today that will allow me to really love this part of my life?” And then be willing to take action.
